The Elevated Clock

When I was 38, I quit my job, sold everything I owned, and moved to Hawaii for a year. Decades spent folding my excessively lanky frame into economy plane seats each week for work had taken a harsh toll. I was fortunate enough to have the means to hit the reset button. So I did.

I bought a motorcycle and spent months learning to ride up the lava-blackened slopes of Mauna Kea, the tallest volcano in Hawaii. It was these moments at elevation, whipping along 13,500-foot rolling ridges dark as onyx, that continue to inspire my woodworking to this day.

The world’s first organically carved clock is functional art. Each one-of-a-kind, three-dimensional piece is hand-carved from ebonized oak, its color and contours recalling the breathtaking topography of Mauna Kea. Brass hardware lend modern style and contrast. This is time, elevated.
