Claro Walnut Live Edge Dining Tables
Check out the videos/photos below and learn about the species of wood.
Claro Walnut is only found in the upper Sacramento valley region. The species was created by John Bidwell who was a Brigadier General in the Mexican American War. He planted Circassian Walnut which did well in the dry soil. Bidwell who was of English heritage preferred the taste of English Walnuts so he grafted English Walnut into the Circassian Walnut and created a new species.
Claro Walnut exhibits many characteristics that are uncommon in other species of Walnut and has made it one of the most prized species of walnut. Trees are harvested when they fall due to age, or rot. The trees can be up to 130 years old.
Claro Walnut will become more rare as time goes on due to commercialized agriculture. Trees now are planted closely together so they can harvest more nuts. The days of giant trees like the one above are coming to an end. Smaller trees will not be as wide as what is presently available.
Jerry visits each of our suppliers to verify they are properly drying wood. This 9’ Claro Walnut log was cut down due to the open spot you seen in the middle.
